Executive Functioning

 Explained

What is Neurodiveristy?

The term “Neurodiversity” was coined by Judy Singer and refers to the variations in the human functioning, of ALL individuals.

It also includes cognitive differences like autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, dyscalculia, Tourette’s syndrome, and others.

What is Executive Functioning?

Common struggles for neurodivergent individuals are related to Executive Functioning Skills which impact the ability to:

  • Attend to tasks

  • Prioritize and manage time

  • Regulate emotions

  • Self monitor

  • Understand others' perspectives

  • Remain flexible with changes

  • Organize one's personal environment

Research shows that these skills are necessary and essential to help us complete everyday tasks and be successful in achieving our daily living goals.

Fortunately, each of our neurodiverse brains can expand and learn these skills through intentional learning and practice!

“Why not propose that just as biodiversity is essential to ecosystem stability, so neurodiversity may be essential for cultural stability?”
